Jewel Match 2 is a classic match-three game and, in my opinion, one of the best games the genre has ever produced. Today’s version is a much improved one of the classic game, upgraded to feature HD (high definition) graphics, but also extra additions that we’ll cover in this review of Jewel Match 2: Reloaded.
In case you have never played the original game, let me tell you that we’re talking about match-three greatness here and possibly one of the games that started the craze for this type of games. Crystal clear gems that literally sparkle on your screen, blockers and other features that make your missions a bit more challenging, different requirements to complete the levels and power-ups to help you get through the most difficult situations, these are the main characteristics of Jewel Match 2 which have been brought back to this remastered version.
But as I was saying, it’s not just the graphics that became so much more awesome. Except for those, the game developers have brought us 50 new levels to test our skills on, 20 Mahjong minigames that you can unlock as you play and replay to earn in-game currency, a “Big Gem” game mode to make things even easier to see and 2 new castles.
The castles are a nice feature introduced by the original game: as you play Jewel Match 2: Reloaded, you are rewarded with coins, which can be spent to “build” different castles, one area at a time. The spectacular resulting images can then be used as desktop wallpapers, so it’s a really nice feature and a great way to offer you an extra challenge.
And if that’s not enough to keep you challenged, there’s also a Time Limited mode (complete the level before time runs out) or a Limited Move mode (where you only have a given number of moves to complete a level). The game modes are rounded up by the Relaxed mode which allows you to play at your own pace, without any limits.
The remastered graphics – now in full HD – are real eye candy, with all the gems looking crystal clear and with everything bright and obvious that you will have no problem playing the game. The sound itself is incredibly smooth and relaxing: playing this game will be just like recharging your batteries after a long day at work. And few games manage to do this!
Jewel Match 2: Reloaded is a real gem of the game. Initially, I thought that it’s just a ploy by the game developers to make some extra money by delivering the same title with shinier artwork, but that’s not the case. For fans of the genre and fans of the original, this is a must have game: it has enough new content to be worth the extra few bucks and it looks amazing too. No complaints here!
